Extreme tests at the North Sea
Exposing devices to extreme temperatures, saltwater, fouling, permanent vibrations, explosive atmospheres: tests in real-life conditions can be very telling. This is why steute opted to conduct a 1-year corrosion test at and in the North Sea for several of its switchgear series.

Just about indestructible - Switches for extreme environments
Ambient conditions can be extreme, whether in opencast mining or fertiliser production. Dust, damp, aggressive substances and vibrations all take their toll on equipment. Robust and resistant switches are therefore needed if human and machine safety are to be guaranteed. steute Technologies has recently extended its range of Extreme products to include a new emergency pull-wire switch and a new belt alignment switch.

Position monitoring in Extreme environments
The loading systems made by Emco Wheaton are used all over the world for handling large quantities of petrol, natural gas, liquefied gas or chemicals. To monitor the position of the loading arms, the company from Kirchhain near Marburg uses Ex position switches from the steute Extreme range, which remain reliable even in subzero temperatures.

Cable-free Kanban
In conjunction with flexible product manufacturing, processing, storage and consignment, information flow needs to be equally flexible. This in turn has an impact on the sensors and switches used at shop floor level. Wireless networks have become increasingly popular here, for example for eKanban systems, due to their many advantages. steute has developed its very own wireless network precisely for such applications, and it managed to include pre-designed modules in time for the LogiMAT 2019.

Exposed to the elements. Switchgear for handling of bulk goods in ports
Switching devices used for the handling of bulk goods in ports need to meet high demands regarding corrosion resistance. But theoretical standards and practical experience do not always amount to the same thing. With this in mind, steute has had several switchgear series in its "Extreme" range tested in real-life conditions – on the South Mole of the island of Helgoland. Here the Fraunhofer IFAM (Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials) has a test facility for just such tasks.
