Position monitoring in Extreme environments

The loading systems made by Emco Wheaton are used all over the world for handling large quantities of petrol, natural gas, liquefied gas or chemicals. To monitor the position of the loading arms, the company from Kirchhain near Marburg uses Ex position switches from the steute Extreme range, which remain reliable even in subzero temperatures.

Wireless wake-up call - AGV applications in state-of-the-art car manufacturing

New production concepts aim to facilitate flexible and highly automated production in 'batch size 1'. Such concepts centre around the use of automated guided vehicles (AGV) and are already being tested in the automotive industry, for example at Porsche plants. They demand flexible communication at shop floor level – in wireless networks.

Remote-controlled eKanban - Application example of a wireless network for intralogistics

One way of achieving more flexibility when replenishing materials in the factory is mobile eKanban racks: a typical application for network-compatible wireless switching devices and sensors. Eliminating cables is also beneficial for non-mobile eKanban systems, however.

Bezprzewodowy Kanban

Jeśli przedsiębiorstwo chce produkować swoje wyroby w sposób nowoczesny i elastyczny, musi zapewnić sobie możliwość łatwego pozyskiwania informacji z działów produkcyjnych i stworzyć system sprawnego ich przepływu wewnątrz organizacji. Wiąże się to zwykle z koniecznością zastosowania odpowiedniego oczujnikowania i, coraz częściej, wykorzystania sieci bezprzewodowych. Te ostatnie mają wiele zalet, dlatego zaczynają być coraz powszechniej wykorzystywane np. w systemach e-Kanban. Niemiecka firma steute oferuje zarówno urządzenia radiowe, jak i oprogramowanie przeznaczone do tworzenia gotowych rozwiązań w intralogistyce oraz systemach wspomagania produkcji.

Exposed to the elements. Switchgear for handling of bulk goods in ports

Switching devices used for the handling of bulk goods in ports need to meet high demands regarding corrosion resistance. But theoretical standards and practical experience do not always amount to the same thing. With this in mind, steute has had several switchgear series in its "Extreme" range tested in real-life conditions – on the South Mole of the island of Helgoland. Here the Fraunhofer IFAM (Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials) has a test facility for just such tasks.

A logical changeover. From a provider of components to a provider of systems and network solutions

Digitalisation means that manufacturers of components are expanding their portfolio to provide their customers with systems and network solutions, which usually entails increased engineering effort. For steute, this changeover is clearly reflected in its new company name. In an interview with GIT SICHERHEIT, Managing Director Marc Stanesby explains the reasons behind the changeover.
